The drawing is a representation of the wooden horse, developed by Odysseus, which the Greeks used during the Trojan War to enter the city of Troy. The Trojans pulled the horse into their city as a victory trophy, not knowing there was a selected force of men hiding inside, who came out after reaching the city.

Drawing as Narrative.

Álvaro Siza started drawing at the age of six. With a great variety of drawings on his portfolio, many of them are inspired by mythology and historic scenes.

The work reflects Álvaro Siza Vieira’s long-standing relationship with drawing as an immediate and instinctive act, a way of capturing thought, memory, and cultural reference in a single gesture.

Álvaro Siza is one of the most important contemporary European architects and the main representative of the modern age in Portugal. He received the Pritzker Prize in 1992 for his life's work.

He studied Architecture at Porto School of Fine Arts between 1949 and 1955, his first work was built in 1954. He was a professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, the city where he practices his profession.
