RAPTO Silkscreen Print by Álvaro Siza Vieira

Narrative Captured in a Gesture.

The Weight of the Moment.

RAPTO is a silkscreen that translates a classical narrative into a restrained graphic composition. Through line and contrast, the work evokes movement and tension while leaving interpretation open.

Story, Held in Lines.

RAPTO (The Abduction of Hippodamia) - The subject from the Greek mythology describes the kidnapping of the bride Hippodamia during her wedding by the centaur Eurytus, resulting in a battle between humans and centaurs.

Drawing, Memory, Interpretation.

Álvaro Siza started drawing at the age of six. With a great variety of drawings on his portfolio, many of them are inspired by mythology and historic scenes.

“The drawings are what came to my mind in this very moment. I like mythology and expressing the stories in images. I have made a lot of mythological drawing in my life.”

Álvaro Siza

A Graphic Reading of Myth.

RAPTO presents a moment drawn from mythology through a precise and controlled graphic language. Rather than illustrating the story in full, the composition focuses on suggestion, allowing form and contrast to carry the narrative weight. Produced as a silkscreen, the work preserves the immediacy of drawing while giving it material presence. Balanced and deliberate, RAPTO is designed to exist both as an artwork and as a quiet yet expressive element within contemporary interiors.
