Designed by Eneida Lombe Tavares and João Xará, FURNA is a handcrafted wicker basket that brings the basketry traditions of São Miguel into contemporary interiors through natural texture, organic form and practical use.

Natural Form, Everyday Function.

Inspired by the artisanal process of basketry from the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, and in collaboration with a local craftsman, three new and original shapes emerge for this object.

Designed for Practical Living.

The characteristics of this volcanic island originate a type of stone whose shape is used to give structure to the wicker.

The irregular and organic lines of the FURNA basket result in a contemporary and versatile expression of an ancestral art.

The FURNA Basket is conceived as a practical container that responds to changing needs within the home. Its form allows it to be used across different rooms, supporting storage without imposing a fixed function. Eneida Lombe Tavares and João Xará are a duo of Portuguese designers sharing experiences in the designer-craftsman relationship, making their collaboration fluid, relaxed and productive.
Eneida has an MA in Product Design from ESAD in Caldas da Rainha where she currently lives and works.
João studied Spatial Design at Caldas da Rainha School of Arts and Design and at LUCA School of Arts in Brussels. He has an MA in Product Design at ESAD.CR.
