Manuel Aires Mateus imagined a vase showing an unexpected material for this object, more solid, stony, and deeply contrasting with the fragility of a flower. Hand carved and polished, these pieces are a celebration of craftmanship, tradition and modernism.

Its restrained form allows it to function across different contexts, whether used with natural elements or appreciated on its own as a spatial accent. Manuel Aires Mateus is one of Portugal’s most renowned architects. Born in 1963, he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon in 1986 and founded Aires Mateus & Associados with his brother Francisco Aires Mateus in 1988. His work is widely recognized for its architectural clarity and has received major distinctions, including the Valmor Prize for the Reitoria da Universidade de Lisboa and the EDP Headquarters, the Secil Prize, and international recognition such as being a finalist for the Mies van der Rohe Award.
