STRATA Watercolour print

Layers of Colour, Layers of Thought.

An Image Built Over Time.

STRATA is a watercolor print that explores depth and layering through subtle tonal variation. The composition unfolds gradually, inviting the viewer to read the image through accumulation rather than detail.

Layering as Visual Language .

The watercolour prints by Marta Cruz approach the relationship between space and time, expressed through colour and composition.

I never have a previous idea. I start painting and then the painting takes me along.

Marta Cruz

The designer works with an interplay of different shapes and layers. Interested in the complexity of colours, she never uses them in a raw way, but individually and intuitively searches the shades for each painting.

Watercolour and Perception.

STRATA & HUMUS are a family of two pieces referring to utopian landscapes, created by layering colors. Being figurative but not realistic, they are an echo of landscapes the artist experienced while travelling in nature. STRATA focusing on the sky and HUMUS on the soil, they are complementing yet contrary.

A Study in Tone.

STRATA approaches watercolor as a process of accumulation, where washes of colour create a sense of depth and spatial rhythm. Rather than depicting a defined subject, the work suggests geological and natural formations through layering and variation. The result is a composition that remains open to interpretation, offering a calm yet structured visual presence.
